This study-unit will enable students to fuse new approaches in landscape environments through the language of ‘collage’. Students will engage in a project to develop a creative portfolio of practice exploring the landscape through the versatility of collage and combined media. They will investigate key collage masters such as John Stezaker, Paul Citroen, Christo, David Hockney, Matta-Clark and others. The development of collage and photomontage, both abstract and illustrative, will be studied through key artists such as Rauschenberg and Schwitters, Hannah Hoch, Raoul Haussmann, John Heartfield and El Lissitsky for their innovative uses of collage, as well as the contemporary radical uses by Thomas Hirschborn or Dash Snow, and designers such as Rem Koolhaas, Mary Miss, Bernhard Hoesli, Richard Meier, Mies van der Rohe, Rogers and Le Corbusier who have used collage as a creative medium.
