Suzanne Piscopo is Professor in the Department for Health, Physical Education and Consumer Studies within the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. She lectures in the B.Sc. (Hons) Home Economics, the MTL Home Economics teaching degree, the MTL Primary teaching degree, the M.Ed. Health, Family & Consumer Studies, the B.A in Early Childhood Education and Care, as well as Bachelors courses in Gender Studies and in Industrial Relations. Suzanne is Chair of the Faculty Doctoral Committee, as well as a Board member of the Platform for Mediterranean Foodways. She has presented widely at national and international conferences on her areas of research interest, including food choice, dietary patterns, the Mediterranean Diet, food security, family wellbeing, and health, nutrition, consumer, sustainability and Home Economics education. Suzanne is the author of peer-reviewed articles, chapters in books, research reports, healthier lifestyle stories for children, and other educational materials for young schoolchildren and their teachers. She is a frequent guest speaker at NGOs, public events and on mass media, and is currently the Academic Coordinator for a community course on sustainable living. Suzanne sits on various national and international boards and committees including as Member of the Council for the Teaching Professions (Malta), Member of the Executive Committee of Home Economists in Action (Malta), National Liaison for Malta with the International Federation of Home Economics (IFHE), Joint President of NNeDPro and the International Academy for Nutrition Education (Cambridge, UK), Member of the Scientific Committee of the International Foundation for the Mediterranean Diet (London), President of the Board of Trustees Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior Foundation (USA). Suzanne is a Registered Nutritionist (UK), Registered European Health Promotion Practitioner (IUHPE), Registered Professional Home Economist (IFHE) and a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (UK). She is Past President of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behaviour and has received two of their awards; the 'Award for Best Research by a Recent Graduate' (1994) and the 'Mid-Career Achievement Award' (2009). Suzanne is co-creator with her husband Michael of the popular cartoon character Fonzu l-Fenek.
