DESCRIPTION | This course was specifically developed for future managers and leaders and/or persons who hope to develop into such roles. In this unit, participants will explore their efficiency when leading in various situations and will be given tools to enhance their function. Topics explored include leadership styles, transition management during the implementation of change, strong points and leadership challenges, creating effective communication styles that may be used during conflict resolution, and self-reflectivity as an effective leadership tool and as burnout prevention. Learning Objectives: The main objectives of this training course are: - self-development through the exploration of personal psychological processes which occur when leading and/or managing people; - enhancement of transition leadership and change management skills through improved self-awareness; - transformational leadership style as a conflict resolution skill. Learning Outcomes: By promoting personal/professional development throughout this course in a safe and supportive learning environment, participants are empowered to: - discover current leadership skills, evaluate their efficacy and develop new ones if necessary; - consolidate existing effective management and leadership practices; - adjust and fine-tune behaviours and attitudes; and - develop further their own interpersonal and change management skills based on feedback obtained from this course. Unit Material: Appropriate unit material will be provided by the tutor during the sessions. Assessment: In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with this unit. However, attendance and active participation in the sessions are compulsory. Note: Degree plus units are not designed to be incrementally burdensome in terms of many academic demands however participants would gain more if they experiment their acquired skills between sessions. |
