DESCRIPTION | Learning Objectives: - To acquire an understanding of the the lore surrounding Greek mythology; - To recognize the impact that these Greek myths have had on multiple areas including, but not limited to, literature, pop culture, and art; - To deepen the interest of the students in Greek mythology, and in ancient culture in general. Introduction: This eight-week course will introduce students to the realm of Ancient Greek Mythology. Throughout the study-unit we shall discuss a number of important Greek myths by going into detail about these Ancient tales and exploring them from a thematic standpoint. Students will be introduced to mythology through Ancient literary sources such as that of Homer and Hesiod, amongst others, accompanied by a number of in-class activities that will allow for a more personal engagement with the myths. |
