DESCRIPTION Objective

In this unit the student will learn about the relationship between Bandwidth, Bit-rate, Capacity, Transmission Delay and Physical Channels in communication networks.

Electrical Signals and Transducers
Frequency and time-domain representation of signals
Bandwidth of digital signals

Modulation and Pass-band transmission
Amplitude and Phase modulation in time domain & frequency domain
ASK, PSK, FSK Digital Modulation Schemes
M-ary and QAM systems
Bandwidth calculation of modulation schemes

Transmission of Signals
Transmission of baseband signals over copper wire
Attenuation and phase-distortion of signals
Transmission of Pass-Band signals over optical fibres and radio
Attenuation and Link Budget

Sampling and quantization of analogue signals
