The Music Studies Department of the School of Performing Arts (University of Malta) in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy in Malta have the pleasure to host Dr Ozan Tunca (Anadolu University State Conservatory, Turkey) for a lecture recital on Friday 21 October in Music Room OH 124, University of Malta Msida Campus. This event will start at 10:00.
The aim of this lecture recital is to introduce two distinguished composers of the Western classical music tradition in Turkey: İlhan Usmanbaş (b. 1921) and Kamran İnce (b. 1960). The lecture recital will focus on two compositions as examplars for the works of the two composers, mainly, Music for Cello 1994 by Usmanbaş and MKG Variations by İnce. The lecture will include musical analysis of the pieces performed, as well as illustrations and documents that provide context for both works. Such context will also include a discussion about how the Turkish Republic was established and how classcal music in Turkey evolved and flourished during the years when Turkey was being established as a republic.
Dr Ozan Tunca is Associate Professor of cello and chamber music at Anadolu University State Conservatory, Turkey. He is also a member of the Hezarfen Ensemble, an Istanbul-based ensemble specialising in contemporary music. Dr. Ozan Tunca, received degrees from Hacettepe University State Conservatory, Louisiana State University and Florida State University. He was a teaching assistant at Florida State University as well as an instructor at the Florida State University String Orchestra Camp. Winning several concerto competitions Dr Tunca performed works of Vivaldi and Dvorak with Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. His string quartet “Alla Turca” was the recipient of the Eppes Foundation scholarship, which gave the ensemble performing and teaching opportunities at Florida State University and within the Tallahassee community. His book How to Listen to Classical Music in 60 Minutes helps reader adopt a different approach to concerts of classical music. The book reached many people and convinced them to begin listening to classical music. After extensive academic work he developed a İOS Application in English and Chinese with Creaworks İnteractive to test aural skills of individuals. He continues to teach cello, make people aware of their musical talent, and attarct more audiences to follow classical music events in Turkey, as well as performing extensively.
