Mozart's Accompanied Recitatives in the Da Ponte Operas

An introduction to notational issues which bear upon aspects of performance. The lecture will approach those aspects of the recitatives which demand strict adherence to the text and those where improvisatory and traditional elements are necessary.
Mozart's Musical Designs: Accompanied Recitatives and Dramatic Elements

An exploration of Mozart's musical designs that emphasise the dramatic elements of the accompanied recitatives which include irony and symbolism.
Students, academics and the general public are cordially invited to attend.
Mro. Michael Summers was born in Stockholm, Sweden but was brought up in Cape Town. He studied at the University of Cape Town, King’s College, London, and the Conservatory of Music in Milan. He has conducted opera and concerts in Europe, the USA, South Africa and China and at festivals all over the world such as Charleston (SC), Edinburgh, Berlin, Paris, Melbourne and the Biennale in Venice, Italy, working at opera houses in Monte Carlo, Rome, London, and Paris. In 2007 he was appointed Head of the Faculty of Orchestral Conducting at the Conservatory of Venice, Italy. He has given lectures and masterclasses at the University of Cape Town, the University of California, Auburn University, Venice International University, and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and music conservatories in several Chinese cities. Mro Summers has recorded for Radio and TV in Italy, South Africa and Germany and the record company 'Brilliant'.
