Abigail is a dedicated individual whose journey in working with children began at the age of 16 when she embarked on voluntary work with the Paolo Freire Institute, serving as a leader for children and pre-teens. Her commitment to providing informal education through youth work for youngsters from challenging socio-economic backgrounds set the stage for a lifelong passion. Inspired by this experience, Ms. Abigail pursued a degree in Psychology, delving into the understanding of human behaviour and cognition.
Throughout her academic years, Abigail continued her altruistic endeavours, volunteering at St. Patrick's Residential Home for Children and contributing as an educator for the Equal Partners Foundation, specializing in children with learning difficulties. Upon completing her undergraduate studies, she took on the role of a LSE while simultaneously pursuing a postgraduate course in Humanistic Integrative Counselling, followed by a Master's in Counselling for Children and Young People.
This educational journey refined her life philosophy, firmly believing in the inherent goodness of people and the importance of providing opportunities for individuals to become the best versions of themselves. Abigail's passion for fostering emotional intelligence and well-being in young children led her to work as a counsellor in government schools. Her mission was clear—to impact society by nurturing empathy, resilience, self-love, and healthy relationships in the future members of society.
Abigail transitioned into the role of Coordinator in a Childcare Setting, focusing on early years. Her passion lies in encouraging child-led activities, fostering exploration, and nurturing problem-solving skills. Rejecting conformity, she champions free thinking in children, coupled with a deep love for the environment and sustainability. Abigail also extends her outreach to support parents in their journey of parenthood.
In 2018, Abigail embraced a new chapter in the Child Educare Services of UM, drawn to the expansive outdoor garden space that aligns with her values of experiential learning in nature.
Presently, she continues her educational pursuits through Play Therapy. Abigail finds fascination in understanding how brain development and play interact, acknowledging the profound impact on children's cognitive and emotional growth.
