Dr. Nicoletta Riva graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Insubria (Varese, Italy) in 2007 with a dissertation on the use of low molecular weight heparin for prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism in patients with renal failure. After a five-year clinical training in 2013 she obtained the Medical Specialisation in Internal Medicine at the University of Insubria. She afterwards worked as Internal Medicine Specialist in a post-acute and long-term care Department. Dr. Riva collaborated for several years at the Research Center on Thromboembolic Disease and Antithrombotic Therapies (Varese, Italy). She also obtained a one-year Clinical Research Fellowship in Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Birmingham, Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences (Birmingham, UK). She collaborated with the GRADE-Dispute Working Group, a subgroup of the GRADE (Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) Group, working on improving appropriateness and transparency of processes to develop guidelines on controversial clinical areas. She is also a member of EVBRES (Towards an International Network for Evidence-based Research in Clinical Health Research – COST Action CA17117). She authored/co-authored several articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented in several national and international conferences. Dr. Riva completed her Ph.D. at the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Malta, with a thesis entitled “Laboratory and psycho-social aspects of anticoagulation and venous thromboembolism”. She joined the visiting teaching staff of the Department of Anatomy in 2017 and the Department of Pathology in 2018. In 2020 she was appointed a Lecturer in the Department of Pathology.
