Nikolai Pace is an associate professor within the Department of Anatomy and an investigator in human genetics at the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Biobanking in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. Dr Pace obtained his PhD from the University of Malta, working on genomics of risk stratification in type 2 diabetes. Dr Pace‘s current research interests focus on medical genomics, molecular endocrinology and the application of omics to rare disease medicine. He is currently co-leading several research projects on the genomics of hidradenitis suppurativa, monogenic diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease, and transcriptomics of type 1 diabetes and pituitary adenomas. He has been recently appointed as national node director of BBMRI.mt and as a working group member on the Million Genomes of Europe project. He was awarded the UoM Research Excellence Grant award and holds active collaboration with various clinical partners that has led to several rare disease publications in international peer reviewed journals.
