Before joining the University of Malta's Dept. of Insurance and Risk Management, prof. Marano was on the tenure track at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and the University of Latvia. In addition, prof. Marano has been a visiting professor/lecturer at several universities. He is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Reading and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Hong Kong – Asian Institute of International Financial Law. A widely sought speaker on insurance law with over 140 academic papers and one of the Italian Code of Private Insurance drafters, he serves as an academic member of the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholders Group at the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). In addition, he is the Director of the AIDA Europe Research Series on Insurance Law and Regulation, published by Springer and indexed and abstracted by SCOPUS. He is the Vice-Chair of AIDA (International Association of Insurance Law) Europe and chairs that organisation's Scientific Committee.
