Studying with us

With more than 480 million native speakers, Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world. It is the language of Spain, of fast-growing economies in Latin America, and the second language of the USA. Linguistic and cultural proficiency in Spanish is an asset in the liberal professions, and Spanish graduates are much sought-after by many companies and institutions in Europe and further afield. The Department of Spanish & Latin American Studies is fully committed to delivering courses that are professionally oriented and intellectually stimulating. We impart knowledge of Spanish-speaking societies whilst we also create the optimal framework for our students’ full personal and intellectual development.    Our young team of dynamic teachers offer a rich interdisciplinary curriculum encompassing Spanish language and linguistics, Spanish and Latin American literature, history, art, music and film, and Portuguese language. Our teaching is interactive and encourages critical and creative thinking. Teachers and students together form a strong community, focused on providing support so as to ensure our students’ success at university and in their future careers.
