A Bachelor degree from this University or from a university recognised by Senate for the purpose, in the areas of Information Technology, Engineering, Communications, the Humanities, the Social Sciences, or in any other area which the Board deems as appropriate.

All applicants shall also submit a portfolio of recent works as well as a letter of motivation in order to demonstrate their experience and/or substantial talent and motivation.

Applicants shall submit a research proposal aligned with their previous degree(s). Their admission may be made conditional on the results of an interview.

For the purpose of selection the research proposal is assessed by the Board of Studies in terms of clarity, feasibility and relevance. Recommendations for admission are determined by the Board of Studies, depending on the availability of appropriate supervisors.

The Research M.Sc. in Digital Games is intended if you have experience in professional game development or academic research. The course is offered on a full-time basis only and is taken over two years. During this time, you will complete a research project while taking taught units (30 ECTS) complementing your research project (90 ECTS) as advised by your supervisor.

In addition to the research component, students are required to register for 30 ECTS in taught study-units as directed by the Board.

* Work on the dissertation is expected to start in semester 2 of academic year 2024-25 and continue up to the end of semester 1 of academic year 2026-27.

 

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Degree of Master of Science in Digital Games - M.Sc. - under the auspices of the Institute of Digital Games.

By the end of the study-unit you will be able to:

  • Assess the outcomes required by different types of questions;
  • Identify the appropriate research process answering a given specific question; and
  • Execute a systematic investigation.
  • Undertake a research investigation;
  • Bring to fruition a project having certain objectives within an agreed timeframe using available resources.
