| DESCRIPTION | This is a basic study-unit in the art of painting from life. The emphasis will be on painting the human figure. Students will be introduced to a number of painting techniques. The study-unit also addresses a number of traditional and non-traditional recording skills. Students have to get their own material. Study-Unit Aims: The aim of this study-unit is to introduce students to painting the human figure from life. Students will also engage with basic anatomy for artists. This will be supported with a general overview of how over the centuries artists chose to represent the body to celebrate beauty, express deep personal experiences and/or meet the requests of patrons. Students will also gain a basic critical-appreciation of the identity politics behind the representation of the human form in art. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - understand and critically analyse the representation of the human figure in art history - systematically engage with painting as an activity grounded in theory - gain a basic understanding of and describe how to study the human form from a life model 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - appreciate and evaluate the creative process of a painting project. Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: - J.
