DESCRIPTION This is a practical study-unit.

Previous Knowledge:

- Pipetting techniques;
- Immunology lectures;
- Serum Protein Electrophoresis;
- Basic Microtomy techniques;
- Neutrophil function;
- Basic Microscopy techniques.

Content:

- Advanced Pipetting for ELISA;
- ELISA technique;
- Latex agglutination;
- Auto-antibody screen (ANA, AMA, ASMA, AGPC, LKM, ANCA);
- Immunofixation Technique;
- Neutrophil Function Test – Nitro Blue Tetrazolium test.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Handle the analysis and quantification of proteins of immunological interest;
- Carry out basic immunology practices, including slide preparations and dilutions;
- Evaluate critically the results, analyse them and draw conclusions from them; and
- Apply the techniques learnt to a range of research situations.
