DESCRIPTION This study-unit focuses on the identification and application of main elements of effective programme evaluation of adult education and training initiatives.
The discussion will locate and discuss the application of elements of evaluation of adult education and training provision, e.g., course relevance, self-directed learning, critical thinking, aims, learning outcomes, assessment, content, resources (including technological resources); logistics, etc.

Additionally, the study-unit's discussion will grapple with how the application of the foregoing elements needs to be informed with how a specific adult education and training initiative intersects with broader social dynamics, e.g., globalisation, digitisation, gender, multiculturalism, integration, racism, industrial relations, etc.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to provide students with knowledge and skills related to the (1) evaluation and (2) improvement of adult education and training provision in terms of:
- Course relevance (e.g., for continuous personal/professional development and broader lifelong learning and employability contexts);
- Responsiveness to broader, intersecting social dynamics, e.g., multiculturalism, integration, gender diversity, digitisation etc.;
- Self-directed learning and critical thinking;
- Programmes' / courses' aims, learning outcomes, assessment, content etc.;
- Resources, e.g., technology;
- Logistics, etc.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. Identify and describe main elements of effective programme evaluation of adult education and training initiatives;
2. Discuss how broader social dynamics, e.g., globalisation, digitisation, gender, multiculturalism, integration, racism, industrial relations, etc. can be factored into programme evaluation of adult education and training initiatives; and
3. List recommendations for improvement that can address specifed outcomes of programme evaluation in the adult education, training and development.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. Analyze how main elements of effective programme evaluation of adult education and training initiatives can factor in broader social dynamics;
2. Assess a specified and contextualised adult education and training initiative using relevant elements of programme evaluation;
3. Plan a programme evaluation framework for a specified and contextualised adult education and training initiative; and
4. Formulate recommendations in response to specified outcomes of an adult education or training initiative's programme evaluation.
