DESCRIPTION | Objectives: To provide students with a suitable background in financial accounting and to acquaint them with the fundamentals of cost accounting. Content: - The users and uses of accounting information; - The accounting equation and the double entry system; - The trial balance; - The errors not disclosed by the trial balance; - Accounting concepts & accounting standards; - Accounting for period-end adjustments; - The preparation of final accounts for Sole Traders; - The final accounts of Limited Liability Companies; - Control accounts; - Calculating the profit when records are incomplete; - Financial Accounting and Cost/Management Accounting; - The elements of cost; - Direct and indirect costs; - Manufacturing accounts; - Fixed, variable, semi-fixed, and semi-variable costs; - Cost-Volume-Profit (break-even) analysis and its limitations. |
