Study-unit Aims: The study-unit aims to cover topics of aviation law for commercial and air transport pilots additional to those specified in AET3002. It addresses air traffic management, aerodromes, facilitation, search and rescue, security and aircraft accident and incident investigation obligations. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe the air traffic management setup under ICAO DOC 4444; - Explain the general design of aerodromes, key definitions and signage, markings and lighting used; - Describe rescue services available in aerodromes; - Explain the rights and obligations during facilitation; - Explain search-and-rescue protocols and procedures; - Describe procedures associated with security of aircraft and flight; - Explain the fundamentals of ICAO Annex 13. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply the knowledge of ICAO DOC 4444 in flight operations; - Use signage, markings and lighting to navigate on an airfield; - Assess aerodrome rescue service facilities in the event of emergencies; - Contribute effectively to facilitation within regulation; - Follow search-and-rescue protocols and procedures in the event of the need of assistance; - Contribute effectively to the security of the aircraft and flight.
