Study-unit Aims: To have a sound knowledge of the anatomy of the lower limb. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to achieve a good working knowledge of the normal anatomy of the lower limb, and its relation to clinical applications, especially to movement. Special reference is made to various pathologies which can affect movement of the lower limb. In summary, the student needs to achieve a good working knowledge of the anatomy of: - components of Lower limb movement; - hip; - knee; - anterior compartment of the leg; - posterior compartment of the leg; - gait analysis; - foot and ankle assessment (like they do at the prosthesis unit at St Lukes); - clinical pictures and discussion: Charcot joints, diabetic foot ulcers, amputations, osteomyelities, dislocation of ankle. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - discuss normal anatomy of the lower limb in general; - explain lower limb’s clinical applications especially related to movement and gait, including the components of movement and the range of passive movement; - explain the various pathologies which can affect movement of the lower limb.
