DESCRIPTION | When applying to join the MSc course, students are to obtain a statement from a member of the Department who is willing to act as the Principal Supervisor for the dissertation. The Head of Department should endorse this statement. A provisional title for the dissertation and a 300 word proposal written by the student after discussion with the proposed Principal Supervisor is to be submitted with the application form. In the main, the dissertation should be laboratory and/or field-based i.e. experimental in nature, although in some cases it would be possible for the work to be based on literature research. It must be original work of a sufficiently advanced nature carried out by the student during the course. The work should demonstrate that the student has gained research experience through the project and is able to plan experiments, present and analyse data, draw logical conclusions from the results obtained, and write a scientific report on the work. In each case, the Principal Supervisor is to ensure that all costs for the project will be covered by external funds. |
