DESCRIPTION The Dissertation carried out in the last year of studies will be centered an original piece of work which the student, under supervision, will research and write up. The topic to be researched can come from any of the branches of the multidisciplinary programme of studies leading to an MA in Heritage Resource Management, as long as a suitable supervisor can be found.

The student will be expected to define a research question, carry out a comprehensive literature survey, and develop and apply a suitable methodology to appropriate data-sets in order the address the question.

Study-unit Aims

This study-unit aims to develop the student's skills in creatively applying the theoretical approaches and research skills learnt throughout the MA programme to an original research question. Research and writing skills will also be assessed.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Design and develop an original research project at an advanced level;
- Carry out the original research;
- Explain clearly and fully the aims, methodology, results and conclusions drawn from the research programme;
- Discuss with peers the positive and negative aspects of the research carried out.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Meticulously undertake all the background work which go into the preparation of the research project;
- Skillfully execute all practical aspects of the research project;
- Prepare and present a professional and academically sound write-up of the project.

ADDITIONAL NOTES **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Oral Examination is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.
