DESCRIPTION This study-unit provides an overview of Transport Management, and the links to the energy sector. It defines sustainability and sustainable mobility, discusses energy conservation in transport and issues related to personal transport. It describes sustainable road transport technologies. Discusses national and regional policy, and governance and institutions. The study-unit also describes mobility management in organisations and travel planning.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of the study-unit is to introduce students to concepts of transport management with its links to energy.

This includes:
- To discuss issues of unsustainable mobility and its impacts on society, the environment and the economy;
- To define sustainability and sustainable mobility;
- To discuss sustainable road transport technologies;
- To discuss the effect of transport management (including technologies) on the environment and society;
- To discuss the relationship between transport management and cost to the economy and society;
- To discuss transport policy, and the role of institutions;
- To define travel planning for organisations.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Interpret the impact of unsustainable mobilities on society, the environment and the economy;
- Analyse sustainable road transport technologies;
- Examine transport policy and its impact on transport and energy.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Interpret sustainable mobility;
- Identify and find solutions for transport problems;
- Evaluate transport policy.
