DESCRIPTION | In this study-unit students will be briefed on the different types of procurement systems for design and construction services as currently practiced in the construction industry and the consequent contractual forms associated and with the different systems. Students will be directed to strategic consequences following the selection of a procurement strategy on the nsuing project processes. Study-unit Aims 1) To introduce students to the different forms of procurement and partnering relationships within the construction industry ranging from professional-led to contractor-led and operator-led systems; 2) To explore different types of projects; 3) To trace the strategic consequences of procurement route selection on project processes; 4) To demonstrate the through workshop and case studies the process of appropriate procurement route adoption. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. List and explain the characteristics of the different procurement system; 2. Analyse two or more procurement systems and illustrate the fundamental strategic differences among procurement systems in a project setting; 3.Through a case study approach, analyze project characteristics and formulate an appropriate procurement strategy. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Understand the far reaching impacts of initial strategic decisions regarding procurement; 2. Given a project scenarios they are able to distinguish that the different project contexts require different procurement solutions; 3.
