DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will cover the following: Project Planning - Life Cycles Asset Delivery - Building the Client Business Case Project Definition Performance Benchmarking Strategic Issues Organisation Culture and Leadership Quality Assurance Supply Chain Management Project Safety, Health and Environment Project Close Study-unit Aims The aims of the study unit are: 1. To introduce students to the significance of buildings /infrastructure as major component of the capital assets of an entity and the consequent strategic significance of the briefing process; 2. To identify the stakeholders interests in a construction project; 3. To explain the briefing process; 4. To establish project benchmarks for performance objectives; 5. To explore tools and techniques in project planning. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. To identify the strategic, financial and organizational importance of a (construction) asset through an analysis of an entity's capital assets; 2. In the context of a case study, produce a client's brief for a construction project; 3. Produce a project plan with clear objectives for performance benchmarks; 4. Demonstrate an understanding of project planning techniques by applying them to a specific project and producing a management report concerned with the technique; 5. Produce a project plan for a specific construction project with reference to time, cost and quality parameters. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Within the context of an organization the student will be able to evaluate the strategic importance of construction capital assets; 2. Understand and deploy project planning techniques; 3.
