DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will cover the fundamentals of financial and management accounting. The format and interpretation of profit and loss accounts and balance sheets are explored. The sources of finance for construction projects are explored within the local context, as well as the formulation of project budgets and the tools for budgetary control. Study-unit Aims 1. To provide students with a basic knowledge of financial and management accounting; 2. To impart students with an understanding of how project accounts integrate with company-wide accounts; 3. To provide students with an understanding of profit and loss accounts and balance sheets; 4. To provide students with the fundamentals of budgeting and budgetary control. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the elements that make up a profit and loss account and balance sheet; 2. Explain the difference between financial and management accounting; 3. Prepare a budget and budgetary control measures in a project based context. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Analytically assess financial statement; 2. Describe the utility of management accounts to a business concern; 3.
