DESCRIPTION The aim of the study-unit is to introduce to students the tools and techniques associated with the management of works on a construction site. This study-unit provides students with the opportunity to explore the translation of strategic objectives to tactical planning and the specific tasks on the construction site.

Study-unit Aims:

The aims of the study-unit are:
- To introduce management concepts related to site management;
- To develop a knowledge of site methods and understanding of site planning and construction processes.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Produce a site management plan of works for a given project site;
- For a particular construction activity, draw up a method statement that is practical, efficient and economic and observes health and safety concerns;
- For a given construction site, produce an organizational work breakdown structure that assigns management and operational tasks in an efficient manner.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability to organise a complex operational system by producing a comprehensive plan;
- Analyse a task in terms of a series of activities and represent the activity as a flow chart and series of instructions in a method statement.
