DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides students with the opportunity to research and present topics in pharmacology to their peers, within a structured and moderated environment. The students will be exposed to on-site pharmacology related work scenarios including industry, health care systems, clinical settings and research and development. During these placements they will be guided by experts in the respective areas. Study-unit Aims: The study-unit aims to help students develop skills of scientific application and discussion, as well as to incentivise them to carry out background reading beyond what is normally taught during a lecture. This will be carried out through on site visits and placements which will contextualise knowledge learnt in the other study units. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Discuss various pharmacology topics within a broader and real-life context; - Recognise and assimilate the most important parts of a topic by accessing different views and data interpretations from different hands on sources; - Extend the knowledge gained through selected ongoing lecture topics, through their further exploitation during these placements. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply research principles through the integration of multiple scientific principles obtained from real-life scenarios; - Actively participate in discussions and teamwork in the real world setting; - Apply theoretical scientific concepts to practical scenarios; - Integrate learning with workplace experiences.
