DESCRIPTION | The content of this study-unit is based on the “Neuroradiology and Head and Neck Radiology” part of the curriculum for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) and the Training Document of the Maltese Association of Radiologists and Nuclear Medicine Physicians (MARNMP). The focus of this study-unit is: - neuro, head and neck radiological anatomy; - the interpretation of neuro-radiological investigations; - imaging pathways related to neuro, head and neck; - management of neurological conditions. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to teach students: • all core competencies of neuroradiology, head and neck; • how to develop skills and attitudes that enable him/her to practice safely and competently; • the basis for lifelong continued medical education and professional development; • to identify and develop areas of subspecialty interest; • to acquire the skills of audit and appraisal; • basic clinical skills; and • pathological and radiological aspects of diseases of the brain, spine, head and neck. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • discuss applied anatomy relevant to cranial, spinal and head and neck imaging examinations; • demonstrate the common causes of acute cranial and spinal pathology and their management; and • discuss the common causes of head and neck pathology and their management. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • demonstrate a sound basic knowledge of cross sectional imaging (CT and MRI) of the Head and Neck; • discuss Diffusion weighted Imaging (DWI) of the Head and Neck; • discuss the imaging pathway in relation to intracranial and Head & Neck pathology; • report straightforward cases and write a provisional report for more complex findings; • report radiographs, basic CT and MRI of the Spine and Neck; and • discuss the imaging pathway in relation to acute spinal pathology.
