DESCRIPTION | - The study of an aspect of dance presented in the form of a dissertation (8-10,000 words). - An overview of some theoretical approaches in the study of dance. - The selection of bibliographic materials and management of sources. - The identification of frameworks of thinking. - Submission of a statement of intent identifying the chosen topic to be approved and supervised by a tutor, the framework for the enquiry and key source material. - Small group seminar presentations. - Individual tutorials – draft submissions. - Final draft. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate the ability to study in depth an approved topic of his/her own choosing; - Demonstrate achievement in writing of a scholarly approach to an intellectual enquiry; - Differentiate between fact, interpretation and assertion; - Use concepts as interpretative tools; - Write in a disciplined way utilising appropriate academic conventions and expressing ideas effectively. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Research; - Critically analyse; - Problem solve; - Evaluate; - Synthesize an extended piece of written work at the graduate level.
