DESCRIPTION | This study-unit engages the student group in professional dance making processes through: - Extension of skills in dance performance and vocabulary for choreography; - Exploration of group choreography employing both directed and devised approaches within the context of contemporary and new dance forms; - Individual creation and manipulation of ideas contributing towards a group dance; - Recording of background research and devising/direction processes; - Individual evaluation of student’s own contributions in Company work and evaluation of production processes; - Contribution to the on-going analysis and evaluation of the student’s own and the groups’ working processes and choreographic crafting in response to the Tutor/Director; - Contribution to professional performance of ensemble choreography; - Writing and presentation of website and reflective diary. Study-Unit Aims: - To professionalise students and prepare them for auditions and public performance; - To expose students to emerging and established choreographers that are specifically commissioned to create a thought-provoking programme of work. These choreographers will work with them over the preparation period, thereby familiarising them with a professional working environment and standards; - Provide an introduction to professional life through touring the choreographies; - To establish connections with partner institutions, industry professionals, choreographers and companies; - To challenge and develop their skills across a varied repertoire of work; - To gain familiarity with basic marketing strategies and personal promotion; - To compose a professional CV. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate increased mastery in dance vocabulary for choreography through participation in daily technique class; - Demonstrate understanding of professional practice in dance making and the rehearsal process; - Further develop improvisation skills; - Contribute ideas with clarity to the dance making process; - Demonstrate the skills of dance devising and the shaping of material; - Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a dance company context as members of an ensemble. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Create, perform, and evaluate an extended performance work as a member of an ensemble.
