TITLE Synoptic Study-unit: Dance Studies Review

DESCRIPTION In the light of the modular structure of BA and BA Hons programmes of study, this study-unit is designed to prepare and measure the students’ ability to link and combine together, with a thematic approach, knowledge acquired in individual segments, with the objective of assessing the students’ overall level of maturity and understanding at the end of the degree course.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To enable the students to gain an integrative understanding of the chosen topics and to reflect on these areas in an academic, professional, and personal way;
- To verify and test the knowledge of the students after three years of study;
- To prepare students to discuss topics in an overarching manner, establishing links between different areas and theories, merging the course content into an overall coherent whole.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Understand current topics in Dance Studies from different perspectives;
- Formulate a critical opinion based on theoretical understandings and frameworks;
- Analyse topics, performances, events, or practices through a coherent engagement with Dance Studies.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Answer a wide range of questions concerning issues and topics within the theory and practice of Dance Studies;
- Link interrelated topics from different areas;
- Express eloquently notions pertaining to the discipline as studied throughout the three years;
- Synthesize and evaluate theories, practices, events, and contexts in Dance Studies.
