DESCRIPTION This study-unit requires students to employ selectively some of the principles and methodologies that underlie current practices in contemporary choreography to support (technically or choreographically) works produced as part of the Dance Tour event. They may shadow or assist choreographers, technical staff, or managerial team throughout the process.

Study-Unit Aims:

The taught aspects of the study-unit are designed to:
- Extend skills in compositional approaches through study of selected professional choreographers;
- Recognise and articulate choreographic styles;
- Make appropriate selection of concept, content, structure and stylistic characteristics;
- Manage choreographic process, synthesis, scenography, production and realisation;
- Present a statement of intent and detailed production visualisation;
- Present detailed description and analysis in production log.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Understand and practice the concepts involved in devising and directing the dance making process;
- Show discernment and awareness of choreographic crafting through each stage of the process from initial intention to performance outcome;
- Self-reflect, appraise and evaluate their own choreographic work including reference to production values.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate the skills of generating, selecting, developing, structuring and presenting movement appropriate to a chosen concept;
- Engage in performance and production, based on an acquisition and understanding of appropriate performance and production vocabularies, skills, structures and working methods, aural and visual environment;
- Prioritise and organise personal and others' schedules, rehearsals, time management;
- Self reflect, analyse and evaluate one's own artistic work in written form.
