DESCRIPTION This study-unit will consist of Drawing and Multimedia studio practice. It provides a solid grounding in the fundamentals of conventional drawing practices and will develop the breadth of understanding of the subject beyond that already obtained in Advanced Level Art. The study-unit will include: observation and measurement skills; enhancing drawing skills and composition using multi-media techniques; drawing on location and sketchbooks reflection; the production of a reflective journal as well as composition theory and practice. Students will be trained to work within and across a variety of design and artistic tools related to drawing.

Study-Unit Aims:

- Lay the foundations of studio research and practice;
- Give students the required skills in traditional drawing tools;
- Foster a culture of critical, self-reflection and peer evaluation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- operate traditional drawing tools used in art and design;
- apply the fundamentals of composition, foster visual perception and measurement skills in art and design projects;
- engage with the production of an ongoing reflective journal using both conventional and digital media.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- demonstrate competent use of visual composition;
- initiate critical, self-evaluation;
- engage in self driven studio research and practice;
- acquire basic skills in traditional drawing methods;
- foster a culture of critical, self-reflection and peer evaluation.
