DESCRIPTION | The Intermedia Studio 2 study-unit will consist of drawing and painting the human figure and locating it in various environmental contexts. Students will use a diverse range of media to depict and contextualise the human figure and to explore ways of seeing the human figure as a unique object of expression. The study-unit will be encouraged to explore various creative processes to broaden their dexterity and rendering abilities. This study-unit provides the required foundation for later work in visualisation, Fine Art, photography, video, illustration and character design and environments for animation and games. The study-unit will include: observation and measurement skills; perspective; foreshortening; composition; tone; contrast; and colour theory. Study-Unit Aims: - Lay the foundations of human figure drawing and its surroundings; - Give students the required skills and confidence in the complexities of rendering the human form; - Apply different contexts to recontextualise the human figure; - Foster a culture of critical, self-reflection and peer evaluation. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - analyse and describe the visual representation of the human figure in various contexts; - render through drawing the human figure in various traditional and digital media; - apply the fundamentals of foreshortening, visual perception, measurement skills, composition, tone, contrast and colour in art and design projects. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - acquire advanced skills in the use of drawing and painting tools; - visually represent the human anatomy; - depict the human figure in various environmental contexts; - initiate critical, self-evaluation.
