DESCRIPTION The study-unit looks at today’s screen culture and the screen as a final platform for design. The study unit covers web site and mobile application, effective through compositional, typographic and design principles. Students will tackle the processes and techniques required to design and interfaces which are not only aesthetic and user-friendly, but that fluidly adapt to the carriers and devices of today’s technology.

Study-unit Aims:

- Foster a methodology of practice led by visual literacy models;
- Give students the required skills to design interactive interfaces;
- Foster a culture of critical, self-reflection and peer evaluation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will:

- Be familiar with the required software and media;
- Be familiar with visual literacy models, design principles and heuristics.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will:

- Be conversant with the fundamentals of visual literacy;
- Be able to plan and design interfaces according to aesthetic and visual literacy models;
- Be able to adapt these designs to the different devices of current technology;
- Be able to evaluate the interaction designed.
