DESCRIPTION | The business plan is a key management tool that describes, ideally in less than 30 pages, exactly what a new business intends to do over a typical three-year period. The document also defines timelines, milestones, resource requirements and associated cash flow forecasts. This study-unit illustrates how to create a business plan but, more importantly, how to use a business plan as a management tool – particularly for business risk assessment. Students will learn how to create a sound business plan and know how to use it as a management tool. Content: 1. The business plan explained; 2. Summary documents; 3. Key sections of the plan; 4. Design and format; 5. Revising business plans. Reading List: Recommended reading - EVANS, V. (2011) Financial Times Essential Guides - Writing a Business Plan: How to Win Backing to Start Up or Grow Your Business. Harlow: Pearson Education. Suggested alternative reading - SMITH, R. (2010) How to Start a Successful Business. Oxford: Boffins House Publishing. |
