Students will be provided with an understanding of the physical and social development, moral, emotional and cognitive development. It will delve into the interaction between nature and nurture and the resulting impact on development. It will also introduce students to the Interactive Learning Theory - A theory that informs the Let Me Learn Process - A process that describes the learner’s interactive Learning Processes and then invites the learner to use these processes with intention by developing a use of Personalized Learning Tools and Personalized Learning Skills. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims at providing students with an understanding of a person’s development throughout the lifespan. It provides an understanding of the current theoretical issues with an in-depth engagement with the foundations of cognitive psychology, and its association with brain development focusing on the neuro-cognitive foundations of learning. It also aims to provide students with an understanding of one’s learning processes and how these may be supported through metacognitive learning processes. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - List the main developmental tasks across the lifespan; - Describe theories of human development; - Discuss the interaction between brain development on the development of cognition and learning; - Discuss the brain - mind interaction theory; - List the four Learning Patterns; - Describe the characteristics of each of the learning patterns. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply the concepts discussed in the study-unit to working with students of different ages; - Compare theoretical concepts with real life learning situations; - Engage in a critical analysis of the theoretical constructs; - Decode learning characteristics in learning activities.
