DESCRIPTION | The success of any social process depends on collaborative applications and a culture of partnership. The effect of having all stakeholders ‘on board’ is fundamental in the effectiveness of service provision. In this unit we will explore how we can go beyond one’s (personal) interests and/or formal training to engage in a practice of cooperation by having the disabled person at the center of service design, development and provision. The idea of multi agency and transdisciplinary work will be addressed in the study-unit. Study-unit Aims: To familiarise students with: - The different discourses between multidisciplinary, inter-disciplinary, transdisciplinary and non-disciplinarity models of practice; - The issues of interagency in practice; - How organisational structures work; - The relation between Universal Design and collaborative practices. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply the different types of service models; - Conceptualise the concept of quality of life versus standard of living; - Adopt a critical approach towards service models; - Understand the complexities around service-user and practitioner professional relationships; - Improve the levels of collaboration between all stakeholders. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Engage with role taking and role release; - Apply oneself to systems development and inclusive programs; - Perform (of service) evaluation; - Engage critically with the different forms and models of collaborative practices.
