DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will enable participants to develop the skills for promoting access to learning in their area of study under supervision. It will consist of 125 hours of supervised practice that can be organised in different ways depending on the area of study. This could include both individual, small group and/or class teaching and/or individual /group community work as well as other forms of intervention for the promotion of access to learning for all learners. It will include both individual and group tutorial support. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to assist participants to develop the necessary attitude and skills as well as apply knowledge to promote access to -learning under supervision. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - be aware that curricula and teaching need to be inclusive; - demonstrate an understanding of the link between learner culture, curricula and activities; - comprehend how curricula, teaching and learning can alienate learners from different backgrounds with diverse skills and abilities, from schooling and traditional teaching approaches; - comprehend how curriculum content and methodologies can accommodate student diversity; - utilise prior experiences and address needs and abilities of students during teaching; - be aware and demonstrate an understanding of informal learning. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - evaluate the nature and extent of responsiveness to curriculum content; - assess the nature and extent of diverse teaching responses during lessons; - demonstrate required competencies in the appropriate approaches to student learning and teaching; - implement curricula and programmes that respond to the issues raised by learners' needs; - design and implement community and/or school-based projects/programmes for informal andformal inclusive learning.
