TITLE Project in Environmental Education and Interpretation

DESCRIPTION This study-unit provides students with the opportunity to conduct (under supervision) a project in a particular area of study related to Environmental Education and Interpretation. Students will be expected to focus and investigate a specific area of Environmental Education and Interpretation through different methodologies and different outcomes (including through written work, seminars, presentation, workshops etc) Throughout the unit students will develop an appropriate applied research project. During their research project students will practice and acquire organisational, data collection, analytical and presentation skills.

Study-Unit Aims:

• Help students identify an area of Environmental Education and Interpretation and develop an applied project to investigate a specific aspect of the area chosen;
• Lead students to apply the knowledge and skills, gained throughout the Certificate programme, to develop an appropriate applied project that links education interpretation and the environment; and
• Help students develop data collection, organisational, presentation and analytical skills related to the research area they choose.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

• critically appraise various applied project methodologies;
• identify a project that evidences an understanding of the theoretical and practical perspectives in the chosen area of study;
• report, analyse and evaluate data collected in a clear, structured and concise form;
• identify the strengths and limitations of the project; and
• propose recommendations for improvement.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

• carry out an applied project using terminology appropriate to the area of study;
• design and implement a plan appropriate for the area of study chosen; and
• communicate the results, conclusions and insights gained through the study through a written text.

Main Text/s and any supplementary readings:

Texts will be proposed by the project supervisors depending on the subject area chosen by the student. Students will also be asked to actively search for texts that are suitable for their particular research.
