DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is designed to enhance students’ engagement in practice-based research through effective communication skills. By combining theoretical exploration, practical exercises, and constructive feedback, students will develop the necessary tools to effectively communicate their research, methodologies, and artistic practices to diverse audiences. Besides enabling students to understand the role of writing and presentation skills in practice-based research, the unit helps them to craft engaging research narratives, write for academic and non-academic audiences, and develop effective presentation techniques to communicate their practice-based research. By means of peer review sessions and regular feedback, students will learn to critically evaluate their own work and provide constructive feedback to their peers. Study-unit Aims: - To foster students' comprehension of practice-based research; - To develop students' capacity to discuss the significance of their practice-based research projects; - To enable students to write about their practice-based research; - To enable students to deliver compelling presentations of their research; - To cultivate a collaborative classroom environment conducive to continual enhancement. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - demonstrate an awareness of the principles and methodologies of practice-based research; - distinguish the characteristics of practice-based research and its integration of theoretical and practical elements; - articulate an understanding of the significance and context of their own research projects; - identify connections between theoretical frameworks and practical artistic or creative endeavours. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - craft compelling narratives that communicate the significance of their research projects to diverse audiences; - demonstrate proficiency in storytelling, argumentation, and structuring for practice-based research purposes; - adapt their writing styles for different audiences; - demonstrate the ability to tailor language, tone, and content to convey complex ideas to academic peers, practitioners, and the general public; - deliver engaging and impactful presentations of practice-based research; - integrate public speaking techniques, visual communication strategies, and multimedia elements to enhance audience engagement and comprehension; - provide constructive feedback to peers in peer review sessions; - critically evaluate peers' written and oral presentations and offer meaningful suggestions for improvement.
