Students will decide on a project, plan and write up a proposal. Upon approval of the proposal from the CELP board, students will work under the supervision of one member of staff in preparation for the project. As well as individual tutoring with the supervisor, there will be 2 two-hour research seminars where students are offered support and given the opportunity to discuss their on-going project with their peers. Some projects could make part of a larger project for which the Centre for English Language Proficiency is responsible.

Study-unit Aims:

- To encourage students to work with a range of research methods and tools;
- To guide students in designing a project and preparing its execution;
- To guide students on how to execute the project based on a number of predetermined stages;
- To assist students in the dissemination of their conclusions as a result of the project while adhering to strict ethical procedures and current TESOL practices in a professional manner;
- To ensure that students have a sound knowledge and understanding of theory construction, and are in possession of good analytical and evaluative skills; and
- To offer students the opportunity to have a more action oriented approach to the knowledge, understanding and skills acquired throughout the taught components.
