DESCRIPTION | The study-unit introduces the different methods of data collection and analysis, as well as probability, random variables, measures of location and variation, discrete and continuous distributions. Students also cover introduction to sampling theory, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit introduces students to quantitative techniques and data analysis in a business context. The importance of computers and relevant applications are also covered. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Define the difference between different measures of location; - Compare the difference between different measures of variation; - Analyse the difference between different plots and charts; - Define the most important fundamentals of probability; - Define the importance of random variables; - Define the difference between discrete and continuous distributions. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Calculate different measures of location and variation; - Construct various charts and graphs; - Work out a number of core examples related to probability theory; - Calculate the mean and the variance from a probability distribution; - Use various distributions to calculate probability values.
