DESCRIPTION Students enrolled in the MBA programme are required to write a 12,000 to 15,000 word project report addressing a business and management related issue in a three-phase, evidence based, manner:

1. Project specification and research proposal and secondary knowledge review (similar but not restricted to, the traditional literature);
2. Research approach, design and implementation; and
3. Outcome discussion, conclusions and recommendations.

Each student shall be assigned a supervisor who shall provide guidance and advice on a regular basis during the period of study. A provisional title for the dissertation and a detailed research proposal shall be submitted to the Board for approval during the second semester (Yr1) of the course.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim behind the Project is to develop the students' capacities to identify, design and carry out a research project under the guidance of an academic supervisor in the field of business and management. It allows students to apply the skills and insights developed in the other MBA units and to demonstrate their ability to apply these to practical issues facing an organisation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- identify an issue of strategic importance to an organisation and articulate competently the intended contribution of the project;
- critically review the relevant literature and to present an effective synthesis of that review;
- contrast research approaches, select the most appropriate method of inquiry and to critically acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of the adopted method;
- report findings that emerge from the research project;
- discuss the implications of the findings as well as any limitations and ethical considerations thereof.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- work as a member of a community of learners and independently;
- evaluate and synthesize written materials while at the same time acquire the skills associated with independent research;
- continue own competence development and specialization;
