DESCRIPTION | The study-unit gives an in-depth understanding of economic and political-economy aspects of the EU’s trade policy to provide a critical discussion on its internal and external dimensions. It provides an updated overview from an analytical perspective disentangling underlying trade fundaments from policy design to discern causes and effects of trade policy. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit has the objective of providing an in-depth understanding of EU trade policy based on analytical evidence. A main goal is to analyse and discuss EU trade policy using a research-based foundation and the practical application of its trade agreements. The study-unit will provide students with analytical skills to investigate current developments on the EU trade-policy agenda. In this respect, particular focus is placed on the implications of liberalising trade with different trade partners. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe EU’s trade-policy agenda; - Identify economic and political-economy causes and effects of trade; - Identify what constitutes trade policy; - Explain economic implications of trade liberalisation. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Evaluate arguments in the trade-policy debate; - Analyse developments on the EU trade-policy agenda; - Analyse developments on the WTO agenda.
