DESCRIPTION | The study-unit gives an in-depth understanding of causes and effects of regional economic disparities to provide a critical discussion on the motivation, focus and implementation of regional policy. It provides an updated overview of the workings of EU regional policy and addresses economic and political-economy implications of different aspects of this policy design. Study-Unit Aims: The aim of the study-unit is to provide students with tools to critically analyze EU regional policy from an economic and political-economy perspective. Students are to apply these tools from various angles and discern arguments for and against the current policy stand. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - identify causes and effects of regional economic disparities; - describe instruments targeting EU regional disparities; - define economic and political-economy implications of EU regional policy. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - critically discuss economic and political-economy aspects of EU regional policy; - present economic and political-economy arguments for the current policy stand; - identify economic and political-economy counterarguments to the current policy stand.
