DESCRIPTION | Given the subject matter of the proposed study-unit, the following general outline will be followed: 1. INTRODUCTION - JEWISH AND CHRISTIAN PRESENCE IN ARABIA IN LATE ANTIQUITY 2. THE EXISTENCE OF RABBINICAL AND APOCRYPHAL WRITINGS IN THE ARABIAN PENINSULA AND BEYOND 3. BIBLICAL FIGURES AND ACCOUNTS IN THEIR QUR'ANIC CONTEXT: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims at giving the student a wider knowledge of the content of the Qur'an, especially in an area that is fundamental to mutual understanding between Christians and Muslims. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Be better acquainted with the main protagonists of the Qur'an and how the accounts of their lives and deeds agree and/or differ from those encountered in the Biblical and Apocryphal traditions. - As a result, one would able to draw a better comparison between the Biblical and extra-Biblical narratives and their interpretation in the Qur'anic tradition. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Have a more profound understanding of the of the narratives of the Qur'an. - Be more capable in engaging in Christian-Muslim dialogue.
