DESCRIPTION This study-unit further strengthens students' language skills in a variety of communicative contexts at intermediate level, such as writing a report, doing an oral presentation, taking part in a debate, writing a cover letter etc.

A variety of communicative contexts are addressed, cultivating both fluency and grammatical accuracy. This unit also trains students in phonetic exercises such as distinguishing and producing particular sounds and prosodic patterns and dividing a continuous stream of sound into distinct and meaningful parts.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to:
- Equip students with the necessary vocabulary, expressions, speech acts and grammatical structures in order to express themselves fluently and accurately about a number of topics at intermediate level;
- Train students in oral and written production at intermediate level.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Use a wider variety of tenses to situate events in time and to refine accuracy of expression (eg. subjonctif, conditionnel etc.);
- Use appropriate grammatical structures and speech acts in order to carry out their communicative needs at intermediate level;
- Use the appropriate layout for tasks such as report-writing, cover-letter writing;
- Use vocabulary related to professional matters;
- Understand the main points of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs when the delivery is relatively slow and clear.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Write a report in French;
- Do an oral presentation in French;
- Take part in a debate in French;
- Write a cover letter in French.
