DESCRIPTION | This unit consists of lectures focusing on different types of language practice activities. Grammar lectures will initially comprise the presentation of a rule through listening and reading activities, followed by collaborative work on rule identification. This will be followed by sustained practice of the rule through diverse language exercises, which will finally be consolidated by practice activities through essay and summary writing. Building up on the grammar lectures, a part of this study-unit will introduce French for diplomacy, allowing students to familiarize themselves with the language used in specific communicative scenarios related to the diplomatic field. The lectures dedicated to French for diplomacy will delve into the nuances of the French language as applied in diplomatic contexts and hone in on particular communication skills and strategies needed within this specialized field through practice tasks and exercises. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims to consolidate BA French students' advanced knowledge and correct use of the French language. This will be done through rigorous work on areas of difficulty that are often noted in students' work at this level, namely object pronouns, the Subjunctive and Conditional moods, the Gerund, the Past Simple tense. The unit also aims to increase students' proficiency in the French language through intense practice of the receptive skills (listening and reading) and especially the productive skill of writing, with a focus on language accuracy. In terms of the French for diplomacy component, the objective is to provide an introduction to the vocabulary and communication styles employed specifically in the diplomatic field and to enable students to express themselves correctly, both orally and in writing, within such a context. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - identify examples of use of particular language points in oral and written texts - state specific language and grammar rules and explain them - comprehend and interpret oral texts more fully in listening tasks - analyse written texts more fully in reading tasks - understand and confidently use vocabulary related to diplomacy - better understand official texts and appreciate the tone used in such documents 2.
