DESCRIPTION This study-unit provides an introduction to physical quantities, mechanics and materials as they relate mainly to the allied health disciplines of podiatry and physiotherapy.

Study-unit Aims:

To provide a basic understanding of some fundamental physical topics, namely: basic quantities, mechanics, energy and materials.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Recognise the significance of basic quantities and SI units.
- Define and describe the characteristics of Scalar and Vector quantities.
- Characterise forces and moments.
- Describe Newton’s laws of motion.
- Explain the laws of energy.
- Describe Hooke’s law and its applications.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
